Yago won his first CT title. After chasing so much, what was deserved for a long time happened and drove the beach crazy.

I was present at this stage and could see how focused Yago was. I passed him several times and he was focused and always very calm. Smiling and polite, he answered and chatted with everyone. He trained every day and whenever he was in the water it was possible to see a maneuver applied by him.

During the championship Yago was passing his heats and with the defeats of Medina, Filipe, Chianca and Ítalo the attention is focused on him. But at no time did he feel pressured, it looked like no one was going to take that title away from him and that’s what happened.

Not even John John Florense who surfed a lot was able to stop Yago.

In the final between Yago Dora and Ethan Ewing, the Brazilian scored a 10 in a Bizarro aerial and this time there was no way the judges could not give a 10.

With this result, Yago entered the TOP 5, with just two more steps left to qualify for the grand finale, where only 5 athletes will compete for the dream of becoming world champions.

The ranking is like this:

1. Filipe Toledo

2. Griffin Colapinto

3. Ethan Ewing

4. Joao Chianca

5. Yago Dora

In the women’s category, the great champion was Caitlin Simmers. the 17-year-old American sensation has been in the spotlight this year. She won the stage in Portugal in March and now again in Saquarema.

Caitlin is now in 5th place in the ranking and will dedicate herself a lot in these last two stages to be in the grand finale in Trestles in California, that would be incredible and would show that the new generation has arrived to revolutionize women’s surfing.

Brazilian Tatiana Weston-Webb is in sixth place and has great chances of entering the select group of five finalists.

The last two stages will be in J-bay in South Africa and in Teahupoo in French Polynesia.

These stages will define the classifieds for the grand finale in Trestles, California, so we will have the next stages taking place in a very competitive scenario and with a guaranteed surfing show.

Let’s follow and cheer for the Brazilians.

aloha
