Nísia argues with Girão and Damares says that the minister may be being sabotaged

Minister Nísia Trindade, of Health, discussed this Tuesday (16) with Senator Eduardo Girão during a session of the Senate Health Committee in which she was called to provide clarification on the department’s actions. The minister has been under pressure since the beginning of the year from both the government and the opposition due to the difficulty in presenting concrete results, although President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) has guaranteed her permanence in the portfolio.

Nísia, in fact, reiterated that she does not plan on leaving the ministry and that she has the president’s full confidence to remain in charge of the department.

Nísia and Girão discussed at a time when the commission was asked about the mandatory application of the Covid-19 vaccine to children and about the technical note released at the end of February that authorized intervention in cases of rape at any stage of pregnancy, excluding the time limit for the practice, set at up to 21 weeks and 6 days.

At the time, the note was suspended the following day and Nísia stated that she did not know about the publication.

Girão gave a long explanation of the question explaining methods supposedly used for abortion and was left with no answer. The question was only effectively answered after the reply. “Avoids questions, answers absolutely nothing […] we’re going to have to call again”, he said.

Nísia stated that she responded to the question about the Covid-19 vaccine, in which the obligation is supported by clinical studies and the World Health Organization (WHO). In the case of abortion, he says he responded to a question from the Federal Supreme Court (STF) about the cases permitted by law, which “is the Civil Code of the 1940s for violence, rape against girls and women, and also the risks to life for mother and the issue of anencephaly”.

“There is no contradiction and nor could there be, otherwise I would not be Minister of State between what President Lula says and the Ministry’s policy. The note was being prepared internally, it had not been released and was being processed, it is not a final decision,” he stated.

The minister, however, did not mention that she was not aware of the disclosure at the time, but had a suggestion from Damares Alves (Republicanos-DF) that it could be being sabotaged internally in the ministry. Shortly after the release of the note, Nísia stated in an interview with GloboNews that the document was leaked by someone within the department, but without advancing the conditions, and told the Value that the author’s objective was to “create confusion” to achieve it.

“I told you to be careful, look at the intelligence you have, how I wish I had your brain. But, I repeat: you could be being sabotaged in the ministry”, said the senator, recalling that one of the secretaries in the department, in the area of ​​dengue, spent 30 days on vacation in the middle of January, when cases of the disease began to rise. in the country.

Nísia did not comment on the senator’s speech. In addition to the vaccine and abortion, the minister was also asked about the epidemic and vaccination against dengue, the crisis in federal hospitals in Rio de Janeiro, the health crisis among the Yanomami indigenous people, among other topics.
