Thiago Heleno talks about Corinthians

The defender Thiago Heleno discussed Corinthians’ interest in signing him this season. The General guaranteed focus on Athletico and said that he will still talk to president Mario Celso Petraglia about a possible contract renewal. His contract with Furacão is valid until the end of the year.

“My focus is Athletico. I have a contract until the end of the year. I haven’t spoken to the president yet [Petraglia]. As in other years, my renovations were handled with him, with great clarity. My goal is to train well, help the team, help the players who are arriving now, who have been hired”, he declared to the press in the mixed zone after the 3-1 victory over São Joseense.

In his eighth season for Athletico and among the greatest players in the club’s history, Thiago Heleno commented on some of the criticism he has received from the fans. At 35 years old, the defender is not thinking about retirement at the end of the season.

“The whole focus is on Athletico. My desire is always to do the best for this shirt, without I did, I won’t always be the best, I won’t always get it right, I have my mistakes, my flaws, I never made excuses”, he stated .

“I’m in my eighth season, it’s difficult for a player to stay at the same level for so long. The other day I looked for other players who have been with other teams for so long, many have gone through difficult years. Following the games, with everyone else The team will be much better. This year is special, where after a lot of criticism, we can give a gift to the fans, it will taste better”, added the captain.

Corinthians’ probe at General would have been a request from coach António Oliveira – they work together at Rubro-Negro between 2020 and 2021. Timão is also negotiating the purchase of defender Cacá, who trains separately at Athletico. Thiago Heleno, in turn, is in Osorio’s plans and has already played six matches this season.

Furacão is classified in the quarterfinals of Paranaense and will face Londrina. The first leg is scheduled for Saturday (2), at 4pm, at Estádio do Café. The return match in Curitiba will be on Sunday (10), at 6:30pm.
