On Thursday, the 25th, the anniversary of São Paulo, which will be 470 years old, there will be the Copinha final between Cruzeiro and Corinthians. It is also the birthday of a large number of Brazilian citizens, like this columnist, a 77-year-old, rational, dreamy and independent man.

I still want to see the Brazilian team win another World Cup and Cruzeiro be champion of the Brasileirão, Libertadores or Copa do Brasil. I want to see Brazil even better, exchanging many benefits, subsidies, fortunes in parliamentary amendments and electoral funds for faster and more efficient action to reduce serious social problems, such as violence, poor education and lack of basic sanitation and water drinkable in almost half of Brazilian homes, a shame.

Player training needs to be improved. It is not enough for technicians to have great scientific knowledge. It is necessary to help athletes with their emotional problems and encourage them to be more creative. Knowledge goes far beyond information, and wisdom goes far beyond knowledge. A great teacher is the one who teaches the student to learn on their own.

Today, there is often an inversion in learning. Children need to have fun with the ball, develop skills and imagination, and then learn the technique, set and rules of the game. There is a tendency to accelerate learning before children have adequate psychomotor conditions to acquire certain skills.

When I started playing in América-MG’s youth team, aged 14, coach Biju called me and said: ‘Train a lot with others, but don’t forget to practice alone, to do different things, to develop what you like’ . Everyone does it their own way. I had a lot of help from my attacking partner, the great center forward Paulo Kleber, a few years older than me, who is also a doctor, a master. We live in the same neighborhood and we often chat about football and medicine.

In public schools, which should be full-time, as Brizola and Darcy Ribeiro dreamed of, boys would have sports classes, physical education, didactic and artistic learning and teaching about social coexistence. Consciousness is collective. Former athlete Ana Moser showed these concerns in all her interviews. She dreamed of training citizens, before becoming professionals.
