Rayssa Leal takes her second world championship this Sunday (3) – 12/03/2023 – Sport

Rayssa Leal won her second world championship in the SLS (Street League Skateboard) Super Crown, the World Street Skate League, this Sunday (3), at the Ginásio do Ibirapuera, in the capital of São Paulo. She also obtained a score of 9 during a 45-second lap, something unprecedented in women’s racing.

The 15-year-old from Maranhão de Imperatriz had already been the champion of the SLS Super Crown 2022, in Rio de Janeiro.

Fadinha competed for the world title with five other athletes in the women’s final, but maintained the lead from the first round of the competition. With the highest score of 31.9, Rayssa didn’t even need to count on the last lap to be crowned champion.

Second place went to Japanese Momiji Nishiya (30.6), and third to American Paige Heyn (28.8).

Australian Chloe Covell, who was considered Rayssa’s main opponent, came last in the general classification, with 20.4 points.

“I can only say that I feel happiness and gratitude for everything I’ve been doing with my team. All the discussions we have because of strategy, it’s all worth it,” said Rayssa in an interview with Sport Espetacular.

She also emphasized the support of the Brazilian fans for her result. “In the morning, in training, I was discouraged because the maneuvers weren’t working. The fans helped me a lot.”

Rayssa was the only Brazilian to reach the World Cup final. The other three Brazilians who were in the competition, Pâmela Rosa, who was champion in the Rio stage in 2019, Isabelly Ávila, who won a place in the SLS Select Series Saquarema 2023, and Marina Gabriela, who replaced the Japanese Funa Nakayama, who is Recovering from an injury, they did not reach the score in the semifinal that took place on Saturday (2) and were left out of the final.

MASCULINE

The men’s contest takes place this Sunday (3) from 2:30 pm and will be broadcast on SporTV.

The current champion, Portuguese Gustavo Ribeiro, qualified in the first of five heats.

Brazilian Giovanni Vianna guaranteed his place in this Sunday’s final by winning the second heat, surpassing among others the biggest winner in SLS history, Nyjah Huston (USA).

Third place was the North American Maurio McCoy. In this third heat, an unprecedented fact: it was the first time that a para-athlete participated in the dispute. Brazilian Felipe Nunes, who suffered an accident at the age of 6 and had both legs amputated at the knees, came in third place, ahead of three other competitors in the heat.

In the fourth heat, Frenchman Vincent Milou passed.

The winner of the fifth heat was fellow Brazilian Felipe Gustavo.

The sixth classified for the final was the Canadian Ryan Decenzo, who was the best runner-up among the five heats this Saturday afternoon.

THE COMPETITIONS

The Super Crown is the last stage of Street League Skateboarding, the most important street skateboarding league in the world. Created in 2010, it will not count points for the next Olympics, next year, in Paris.

Para-athlete Felipe Nunes was able to participate in the competition at the Ibirapuera Gymnasium because the SLS Super Crown is a tournament contested by invited athletes.

As qualifiers for Paris-2024, the valid championships are organized by World Skate: the World Championship and the ProTour.

The next stage of the Street Skate World Championship that adds points towards the Olympics takes place from the 10th to the 17th of this month, in Tokyo.
