Felipão puts Atlético-MG in the fight for the title: ‘I believe’

The choir “I believe” has been accompanying the Atlético-MG since winning the Copa Libertadores in 2013 and filled coach Luiz Felipe Scolari with hope after a dramatic victory for the Minas Gerais team against São Paulo, 2-1, this Saturday (2), at Arena MRV, for the 37th round of the Brasileirão. The result left the club still with a chance of winning the title.

“This phrase ‘I believe’ chills us, it makes us motivated, it makes us different. Because I didn’t even believe anymore, today, at the end of the game. When we scored the goal I still said: ‘That ball can’t have It was a goal, Paulinho kicked it out’. Everyone was joking. It’s to be believed. This ‘I believe’, I hope it’s not just a phrase from Galo, it’s a phrase that we all have as a goal in all our goals I believe and work towards this”, said Felipão.

After doing their part, Atlético will dry the Palmeiras in the duel against Fluminense, this Sunday, at 4pm, at Allianz Parque. The Minas Gerais team has the same 66 points as the Alviverde team, but is worse on goal difference: 30 to 23.

“After this hard-fought victory over São Paulo, I want to refer to the Galo fans: that they still believe. I’m the coach, but I’m a ‘I believe’ fan like them and we don’t know what will happen. See you Wednesday Next Friday we are fighting for the title”, said the coach.

Full-back Guilherme Arana sent a message to coach Fernando Diniz, from Fluminense, and was in favor of the “white suitcase”. Already qualified for the next edition of the Libertadores and waiting for the Club World Cup, the Rio team only fulfills the schedule in this final stretch of the Brasileirão.

“Today, it was more down to race. The fans never let go of our hand. This strength of theirs transmits to those on the field. Very happy with the victory, our part was done. There has to be (financial incentive) , it’s valid. It’s a championship that if we win will be historic, so I think the financial incentive in this final stretch is very valid, but there’s Diniz! So, professor, help us”, said the full-back.

Still dreaming of the title, Atlético ends its participation in the Brasileirão against Bahia, on Wednesday, at 9:30 pm, at Arena Fonte Nova, in Salvador.
