Wanna Brito from Amapá, from the F32 class (athletes with cerebral palsy), broke the Americas record in the shot put on Sunday, 25th, in the CPB/CBAT Challenge, held at the Paralympic Training Center, in São Paulo. The silver medalist at the Paris 2023 Paralympic Athletics World Championship reached the mark of 7.66m and left behind the former best continental result, which was already hers, of 7.35m obtained in June 2023, also in the CT, at the Championships Brazilian Lotteries Athletics box. The brand, however, still needs to be approved by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

The CPB/CBAt Athletics Challenge aims to disseminate and develop the practice of the sport among Brazilian athletes with and without disabilities. The competition is directed and organized by the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB) and the Brazilian Athletics Confederation (CBAt).

This Sunday’s stage, the first of the year, brought together 114 Paralympic and 75 Olympic athletes to compete in track events (100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1,500m, 5,000m, and long, triple and high jumps) and field (shot put and javelin, discus and club throws).

Paralympic athletes used the opportunity to improve their brands. Wanna, for example, also surpassed its own 2023 club launch results. Last year, the athlete had her best performance in April, at the Paralympic Training Center, when she threw 25.73m. This Sunday, the athlete’s best throw was 25.83m.

“I loved today’s result. However, I want to improve this brand even more. I’m working hard on this. It’s a very long job, with a large team behind it. It’s not possible to accommodate, especially in a Paralympic year, when everyone wants to be in Paris. This year, the main objective is to seek a podium at the Games”said Wanna.

The CPB/CBAT Challenge was the first opportunity for Paralympic athletes to reach the minimum index established by the CPB for participation in the World Cup in Kobe, Japan, in May. The next two and final chances will be in the second stage of the same Challenge, next Sunday, March 3rd, and the National Lotteries Caixa Athletics Circuit, on March 16th and 17th.
