Carneiro Neto and the “athleticans who wanted to sell Baixada”

Good memory, my friend Carneiro Neto remembers that “35 years ago, a group of athletes wanted to sell Baixada”. In a narrative faithful to the facts and to the athletes who did not allow the sale, including himself, he narrates the historic meeting at the Mabu Hotel. Carneiro should make a new post and tell who the athletes were who “wanted to sell Baixada”.

Carneiro’s story claims the most relevant fact: who were the Atleticans who wanted to sell Baixada?

To answer it is necessary to go back in time a little further. In 1984, tired of paying Couto Pereira’s rental fee to play Atletiba and national tournaments, the “Retaguarda Atleticana”, which commanded the Athletico, decided to nominate Onaireves Nilo Rolim de Moura for the presidency of the Paraná Football Federation. At the time, the State Government always had a candidate. Representative Anibal Khury nominated Aziz Domingos, from Colorado.

The election took place at Clube Morgenau, in Cristo Rei. Moura’s victory was supported by the “Retaguarda Atleticana”. And because they know the rules of the game to win an election, Athletico highlighted a commander: Mario Celso Petraglia.

Immediately after Moura took office, the idea of “selling” Baixada to the construction company Sisal emerged, which in return would build Pinheirão for Athletico. Moura, as an advisor supported by “Retaguarda Atleticana”, with Petraglia at his command, formalized the proposal at a meeting of the Athletico Deliberative Council. Only two councilors reacted against the sale: Celso Gusso and Ary Queiroz. All the other counselors were falling for the “vicar’s tale”. Hence, the committee that held the historic meeting at Hotel Mabu was formed, which decided to reject the proposal.

But the athletic drama did not end with the refusal. There was an exclusive contract with the Federation in which Athletico gave up Baixada to play only in Pinheirão. This contract was approved by the same Deliberative Council.

The Atleticans suffered the devil in Pinheirão. Lawn with hole, distant stands, flooded changing rooms and parking lot full of mud. Until during a defeat against Portuguesa de Desportos, the fans, out of patience, demanded a return to Baixada.

Farinhaqui, João Augusto Fleury and Hussein Zraik went to Ney Braga and asked for help. Enio Fornea Junior, Paulo Abbage, Ademir Adur and Ismário Bezerra built “Farinhacão”. Through an injunction, Athletico got rid of Pinheirão and later won compensation, in 2014, of R$14 million, which helped in the construction of the Arena da Baixada.

I petitioned for the Precautionary Measure and Professor Gilson Amaro Fernandes petitioned for the ordinary action – a true masterpiece that, 30 years later, should serve as a reference for legal studies on contract law. With Marcelo Ribeiro in the game, we made good money.
