Senator Magno Malta (PL-ES) criticized the repercussion of the case of racism against the Brazilian player Vinicius Junior and said that TV stations are “re-victimizing” the player “because the subject gives a rating”.

Magno Malta demanded animal cause associations to “defend the monkeys”. According to him, this is hypocrisy and “the monkey is exposed”.

The statement was made during a hearing by the CAE (Commission on Economic Affairs).

For the senator, the press is “re-victimizing” the player instead of “putting the boy up there”.

The politician, who identifies himself as black in a statement to the TSE (Superior Electoral Court), also said that “if he were a black player”, he would enter the field “with a ‘”white piglet in his arms” to show that “he has nothing against white”.

On Sunday (21), Vinicius Junior was the target of racism in the match between Valencia and Real Madrid. Valencia fans started shouting “mono” (“monkey” in Spanish) when the Brazilian was near the sidelines.

This Tuesday, Spanish police confirmed that they had identified three fans who made racist gestures. They were held for questioning but were released.

Another four fans were also taken by the police, suspected of having hung a dummy with the Brazilian player’s shirt on a bridge, before the derby between Real and Atlético de Madrid, in January.
