The Ministries of Sport, Racial Equality and Justice will meet on Wednesday (24th) with the founder of the Observatory of Racial Discrimination in Football, Marcelo Carvalho, to initiate discussions with civil society on the creation of actions to combat racism in sport.

The initiative comes in the wake of the most recent attack promoted against Brazilian player Vinicius Junior, from Real Madrid. The episode took place on Sunday (21), during a match for the Spanish Championship.

Together, the three ministries form a newly created inter-ministerial group to tackle the issue.

The collegiate will seek to propose policies and programs that promote the inclusion of the black population in sports and dialogue with society to eradicate racism in the segment, among other goals.

At the meeting to be held with the Observatory of Racial Discrimination in Football, the idea is to discuss actions aimed at communication and access to justice, in addition to strategies for international action.

The work of the interministerial group takes place within the scope of a program aimed at athletes in Brazil and abroad and which was announced last month by the Minister of Racial Equality, Anielle Franco. The creation of the project had already been motivated by episodes involving the Real Madrid player.

In posts on the networks, Vini Jr. highlighted that the attacks he suffers are not isolated and questioned why offenders and clubs are not punished – Sunday’s episode was at least the 10th time that the Brazilian was the victim of something like that since he started playing in the Spanish Championship.

Real Madrid has filed a hate crime complaint and club president Florentino Pérez has vowed to “go to extreme lengths to defend” Vini.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), in turn, asked the Spanish authorities to take action, and Minister Anielle Franco (Racial Equality), said that the governments of both countries have called on the Spanish Public Prosecution Service so that the body investigates La Liga .
