Coritiba striker Slimani breaks new record in the Algerian national team

Algeria drew one to one with Angola, in the debut of group D in the African Cup of Nations, this Monday (15), at the Estádio de la Paix, in Bouaké, Ivory Coast.

The Coritiba striker, Islam Slimanistarted on the bench and was called on by coach Djamel Belmadi in the 17th minute of the final stage, when the game was already equal, in Baghdad Bounedjah’s place.

With this match, Algeria’s top scorer is now also the athlete with the most games with the Algerian shirt in history. Slimani completed 101 caps for the country.

In the first half, striker Baghdad Bounedjah opened the scoring for the Algerian team. In the final stretch of the first stage, Algeria went on to expand with a great bicycle kick, but the referee ruled it offside.

In the second stage, Angola achieved more volume in the attack and after 15 minutes, they had a penalty awarded. The number 19, Mabululu, took the penalty and equalized.

Even with the result, Algeria is leader of group D, which also includes teams from Burkina Faso and Mauritania. The Algerian team’s next match is on Saturday (20), against Burkina Faso. Due to the competition, Slimani will miss the first phase of the Paranaense Championship.
