This Monday (15), the Glicério de Souza Marques Stadium celebrated 74 years of foundation. The place, known as “Gigante da Favela”, is one of the most traditional sports-oriented spaces and is marked by great stories, emotions and achievements. The venue has a capacity for 5,630 fans.
‘Glicerão’ was inaugurated on January 15, 1950 by the then governor Janary Gentil Nunes with the game between the state teams of Amapá and Pará. Furthermore, the place has hosted games from the Amazon Cup, Copa do Brasil de Futebol and Brazilian Football Championship – Series D.
The first goal scored at the Glicério Marques stadium was scored by Norman Percival Joseph David (nicknamed Cacetão for the power of his shot – from the Pará national team and Payssandu player). Norman scored the goal 30 minutes into the second half, and Pará won the match 1-0.
The arena revealed players such as Bira, Aldo, Baraquinha, Marcelino, Jardel, Roxo (the first Amapá native to score a goal), Zezinho Macapá, Jasso, Miranda, among many other important names in football.
In 1975, after a major renovation, the Stadium gained lighting, after 25 years of only daytime games. In 2014, after the final of the second round of the Amapaense Championship, between Santos/AP and São Paulo/AP, the stadium was closed.
Now, the place has become a Sports Complex and includes sports such as athletics, triple and extension jumps, 100m freestyle and 110m hurdles, swimming, volleyball, beach tennis, futvolleyball, basketball, volleyball, futsal, handball, society football, hockey , field football with official FIFA measurements, skate streat, skate bowl and freestyle, judo, jiu-jitsu, karate, taekwondo, wrestling, wrestling, ballroom dancing, figure skating and 3 x 3 basketball.
Recently, the mayor of Macapá, Dr. Furlan, stated that the stadium will once again host games from the Amapaense Football Championship and national competitions.
