Yuri Alberto’s path to selection has Corinthians as a showcase

It’s time to Yuri Alberto. Last Saturday (18), the Corinthians striker won his 22nd birthday present first call-up to the main Brazilian national teamreplacing Richarlison, who was sidelined by injury.

In the first call-up of interim coach Ramon Menezes, the Corinthians number 9 was one of the novelties and will go to the friendly between Brazil and Morocco, on the 25th, in Tangier.

Yuri Alberto sums summons in four different categories. In all, there are 21 games and nine goals representing Brazil, divided by the under-17, under-18, under-20 and under-23 teams.

At the age of 22, just completed, the player did not hide the importance of wearing hopscotch in his career. Yuri is focused on starting the cycle for the next World Cup.

“My main dream is to play in a World Cup for my Brazil, to defend my country, my national team. And another dream, which I even have tattooed, is to play in the Champions League, the main championship in the world. But the main thing is to play in the Cup” , he stated to The Players Tribune.

Corinthians as a showcase

The athlete already had an eye on the visibility of Corinthians. Defending the Parque São Jorge team since mid-2022, Yuri was hired definitively before the start of this season and had already admitted that he sees the club’s greatness as a showcase for the Brazilian national team.

In January, the number 9 anticipated the moment of his summons, which already came in the first call after that declaration.

“Corinthians is a huge showcase, so I think that, God willing, I will continue to do my good work here and be recognized by the new coach that comes along. I see that, this year, it is very possible. It will depend a lot on me, of my work and effort, I think I’m going to achieve great things here at Corinthians and, God willing, I’ll be rewarded with being called up to the Brazilian national team”, he said in an interview with Gazeta Esportiva.

Different season start

In 2022, Yuri took a while to pick up, but then took off. Upon arriving on loan from Zenit at Corinthians, Yuri went blank in the first few games, but soon became disenchanted with a hat-trick against Atlético-GO, ending the season with 11 goals and two assists, in 28 games played.

New year, commander and different roles. Already permanently and with a new coach at Timão, the number 9 has been adapting to Fernando Lázaro’s scheme and, in 10 games in 2023, has four goals and three assists.

Boy from the village and highlight at Inter

Revealed by the base of Santos, Yuri debuted in the professional in 2017. For Peixe, he did not have scoring seasons, but he caught the attention of Internacional, being hired in 2020 by Colorado.
