The Minister of Racial Equality, Anielle Franco, said this Monday (22) that the Brazilian government, together with the Spanish government, had called on the Public Ministry of the European country to initiate an investigation against La Liga, after the episode of racism against the player Vinicius Júnior.

Anielle Franco also added that he “goes for it” in the Spanish league, so that the case involving the Brazilian and all other cases of racism are investigated and penalized. And she added that La Liga’s record is not good.

“We released a note now, with several ministries, a note from the interministerial federal government repudiating it. La Liga’s record is not a good record, it’s a very racist record.”

The Minister of Racial Equality also added that she spoke on Sunday (21) with the Spanish Vice President, Yolanda Díaz. And that they agreed to trigger the Public Prosecutor’s Office to investigate La Liga.

“With the government of Spain, together with the Minister of Equality, Minister Irene [Montero], which has within its ministry a black director, which is Rita, we go through the Public Ministry to notify so that La Liga and all cases are investigated. You can’t just stick to the ‘we repudiate, in a note’ thing without concrete action. Now we’re going to go up with the Public Prosecutor’s Office there so they can be notified and investigated. Let them answer for their actions,” he added.

Vinicius Júnior was again the target of racist chants this weekend, during Real Madrid’s match against Valencia, for the Spanish championship.

The striker was expelled this Sunday (21) after confusion started after racist insults uttered against him by Valencia fans.

Images show the moment when the Brazilian national team player faces fans of the home team close to the bottom line. The situation caused an agglomeration between athletes from both teams and the match was interrupted for a moment. Only the Brazilian was sent off with interference from the VAR (video assistant referee).

In a message on social networks after the game, the striker stated that racism “is normal” in La Liga and signaled that he could leave Spain as a result of these episodes. In a statement, the organization said it had requested the images to investigate “alleged racist insults directed at Vinicius Jr.”
