The endless hypocrisy of the International Olympic Committee – 02/14/2024 – Juca Kfouri

The opening of the 33rd Olympic Games, in Paris, on July 26th, has everything to be the most spectacular of all time, the first outside a stadium, on the banks of the Seine and for around 600 thousand people to see it up close .

Olympic openings and closings are usually moving.

At Maracanã they were, as in Barcelona and in London, as in Moscow and the tear of the bear Misha.

It’s a shame that they also often cover up human misery, wars, atrocities, genocides, racism, which continue undaunted while the Games unfold in the name of peace between peoples.

This 2024 will be no different.

Russian athletes, as long as they have not recently served in the Army, will be able to compete without their country’s uniforms and will not hear the anthem if they win gold.

Minimum punishment for Russia for the invasion of Ukraine and which goes to the extreme of punishing those who, thanks, went to war.

Without the courage to ban the presence of the Russian giant, the IOC found it a half-punishment.

Israel, however, is not subject to any sanctions for the barbarities it commits in Gaza.

Like the United States, the most interventionist country on the planet since the last century, it has never suffered any punishment.

Why is what is valid for some not valid for others in the International Olympic Committee?

Because for the richest, everything, in addition to the fact that the USA is on the verge of hosting the 2028 Summer Olympics, in Los Angeles, again, as in 1932 and 1984, and the 2034 Winter Olympics, in Salt Lake City, another time, as in 2002 — marked by the biggest vote-buying corruption scandal in the history of the Games, shine or snow.

The IOC makes tennis what FIFA makes football boots.

Their top hats are also capable of taking off their socks without taking off their shoes and, when it comes to enjoying perks or saying that sport and politics don’t mix, they go to the highest place on the podium of imposture.

In fact, it’s curious. Bolsonaristas say the same and are silent in the face of the myth with the CBF shirt and all possible and imaginable clubs.

Let’s go back to the hypocrites and cynics at the IOC, remembering that its president, the German and former fencer Thomas Bach, escaped from Brazil in 2016 and was not at the closing of the Paralympic Games in Rio to escape the investigation into the illegal sale of tickets for the event.

Paris is worth a mass and will move us like never before because, in this world full of genocidal crazy people, there are those who are capable of exercising the power of fleeting oblivion to celebrate a sporting victory.

Let the Olympic barons, however, know that the Palestinian Olympic Committee, sooner or later, will charge for the crime committed and associate the IOC with the massacre of children and women in Gaza while bronze, silver and gold medals will appear on the proud chests of the winners .

Because of two things: either the Olympic Games are a separate event, almost a parallel reality, and everyone can participate regardless of what the governments of each participant do, or, in the name of peace, whoever makes a living from waging and encouraging wars needs to be banned from competing.

There was a time when Germany and Japan were excluded from the Games — London, in 1948. As South Africa was also excluded from the Games in seven editions from 1964 onwards, because of apartheid.

Any similarity with today is not a mere coincidence.

And yet nothing moves.
