The trial was held at the request of the Italian court, which sentenced him to nine years in prison for the case that took place in 2013.

Brasilia DF) – The Special Court of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) formed a majority, this Wednesday afternoon (20), to allow former player Robinho to serve his sentence in Brazil for gang rape committed in Italy.

The trial was carried out at the request of the Italian Court, which sentenced him to nine years in prison for the case that took place in 2013. Even with the STJ’s decision, Robinho should not be arrested immediately.

The case will be forwarded to the first instance of the Federal Court, which will be responsible for enforcing the sentence. Furthermore, the defense of the former Brazilian national team player, currently 40 years old, can still file an appeal.

The case

In November 2017, Robinho was sentenced by the Milan Court to nine years in prison for the crime of gang rape committed in 2013. The Italian court’s decision became final in January 2022 with the final conviction in the European country.

The former player was not on Italian territory when the trial concluded. He currently lives in Brazil and the Brazilian Constitution does not allow the extradition of its citizens.

In February 2023, the Italian court asked Robinho to serve his sentence in Brazil. The STJ Special Court trial, which began this Wednesday, did not re-judge the accusation against the former player, but only analyzed the validation of a foreign decision, allowing it to be executed in Brazil.
