Pérez easily overtakes Leclerc to take victory at the Baku GP

The emotions usually aroused by races on the Baku street circuit were not present in this Sunday’s (30th) edition of the Azerbaijan GP. On a day of dominance by Red Bull, Sergio Perezwho had already won the sprint race, finished in first place and led the team’s third one-two in four stages, with teammate Max Verstappen in second place

The two overtook pole position Charles Leclerc in the first few laps, in much the same way, with the moving wing and on the straight. After that, the ferrarista had no more chances to recover and finished third.

Anyway, the result was celebrated by Ferrari, as it was the team’s first podium this year. This is Pérez’s sixth career win, and his fifth on a street circuit. In the year, it was the second, after triumph in Saudi Arabia.

Second in Bahrain and fifth in Australia, the Mexican reaches 87 points with the sum of the scores achieved in the sprint and the main race. Thus, he remains in second place, but now just six points away from teammate Max Verstappen, who has 93 and with whom he is fighting a particular battle within his own team. Fernando Alonso is third, with 60 points.

Pole position Leclerc got off to a good start and effectively protected himself from the Red Bull duo that was close behind. On lap 4, with the use of the movable wing released, Verstappen was just over 30 km/h faster than Leclerc when he managed to overtake him, without major difficulties, on the pit straight. The ferrarista saw the same scene repeat itself on lap 9, this time with Pérez in the lead.
