Advanced Portuguese Language Class is an innovation of the Ven, Tú Puedes! for the year 2024

Manaus (AM) — For refugees and migrants residing in Brazil, the language barrier greatly compromises integration into the local community. Not knowing how to communicate in Portuguese leads to several daily difficulties, such as accessing basic services and getting a job. Faced with this problem, the NGO Visão Mundial opens 20 places for the first class of the Advanced Portuguese Language Course for migrants and refugees in Manaus.

According to a survey carried out by the NGO World Vision with Venezuelan people, it was found that for 39%, language is the second biggest barrier, second only to access to formal employment (51.5%). Data from the R4V platform estimates that more than 510 thousand Venezuelan people reside in Brazil, requiring reception strategies in the country.

The advanced level modality is a new feature of the Ven, Tú Puedes! project, an initiative financed by the Office of Population, Refugees and Migrants (PRM) of the United States government, and aims to offer lasting solutions and livelihoods for this population.

Registration can be made until January 26th, from 8am to 3pm, at PTRIG. Interested parties must present the certificate of the basic Portuguese course, in addition to personal documents such as CPF, RNM or Refuge Protocol.

The course will last one week, from January 29th to February 2nd, with classes from Monday to Friday, from 2pm to 4pm, at the Cidade Nova da Fera Cursos unit.

The project’s local coordinator in Manaus, Arylanne Batista, highlights the importance of the course for the integration of migrants and refugees into the community. “We offer an opportunity to improve participants’ writing and speaking skills, facilitating their integration into society and the job market,” she highlighted.

The project has already certified more than 3,697 thousand people in Basic Portuguese Language classes. The advanced classes are new for this cycle, whose goal is to certify an additional 190 people in the three states of operation.
