Osmar Terra denounces the left’s attempt to release “medical marijuana”

Federal deputy Osmar Terra (MDB-RS) denounced this Tuesday (16) that the left in the Senate is trying to release “medical marijuana” in one of the amendments included in the drugs PEC.

The proposal that criminalizes the possession and possession of drugs, regardless of the quantity, is scheduled to be voted on today in the Senate session.

According to the parliamentarian from Rio Grande do Sul, the PEC in the Senate is important, but without the inclusion of an amendment on “medical marijuana.” According to him, the expression “is nothing more than the old marijuana, with all its substances that cause mental damage irreversible, using the excuse that cures diseases”.

“It’s a deception that, if approved, would completely free up the use of marijuana in Brazil, in addition to causing the illusion among young people that using marijuana is okay, because it’s medicine,” he said.

Osmar Terra also adds that they want to release marijuana in its entirety, under the guise of medicine. “More than 80% of those who use other drugs such as cocaine, crack, heroin, etc… started with marijuana, the old marijuana, which they now call “medicinal”, he reinforces.

Several studies and the Brazilian Psychiatric Association (ABP) itself have already pointed out that there is no definitive scientific evidence about the supposed benefits of the substance for most diseases. There is an exception in cases cited by the Federal Council of Medicine (CFM), such as patients with epileptic seizures related to Dravet, Doose and Lennox-Gastaut syndromes.

The senators will hold their last discussion session this Tuesday and then PEC 45/2023 should be voted on, reported the Senado Agency. In March, the proposal was approved by the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) with broad support from the opposition. The vote was symbolic and had only four senators voting against: Humberto Costa (PT-PE), Fabiano Contarato (PT-ES), Marcelo Castro (MDB-PI) and Jaques Wagner (PT-BA).

On March 6, the Federal Supreme Court (STF) interrupted the trial that could decriminalize the possession of marijuana for personal consumption, following a request for a review from Minister Dias Toffoli. So far, there are five votes for the end of the criminal classification of users and three against.
