The Amapá Sidney Macedo will be representing the state and Brazil at the largest multi-sport event in South America and the biggest meeting point for the nutrition, fitness, sports and health sectors, Arnold South America 2024, which will be held at Expo Center Norte, in São Paulo, on April 5th and 6th.

According to the athlete, it is the realization of another dream to participate in the competition, which is named after one of the most influential in the sport, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and tells how he qualified.

“I entered the Manaus selection process last year. We know that there is a lot of expense, logistics, but I managed to qualify and I’m going to São Paulo to represent Brazil and Amapá. Following this selection in Manaus, one was held here in Macapá and I was champion, but my place was already guaranteed.”he said.

This is the second time that Sidney participates in the competition. In 2023, he returned home with two trophies in the Power Biceps Free and Repetition category. Furthermore, he won third place in the Mas-Wrestling competition. He was the only Amapá native who represented the state at the event.

The native of Amapá is the current powerlifting state champion and was once world champion in the sport. He has also done capoeira, jiu-jitsu and boxed, being runner-up in Amapá in 2006. Sidney is 44 years old and lives in Macapá, but trains in Santana, as there are only two gyms where he can train with weights that carries.

To help with the cost during the trip (accommodation, transport, food, etc.), the Amapá native is holding a raffle, in addition, he states that sponsorship is extremely important so that the athletes do not give up.

“I am not sponsored by any company or public. This saddens me a lot and I even thought about giving up, despite having many achievements. I wanted to ask for support from the secretaries [de esporte] from the city and state to help me. We are athletes, we have difficulties. There are people who miss out on good competitions because they can’t get there.”said Sidney.
