The world of football mobilized this Friday in the early hours of the day. The reason: a year without Pelé. The greatest player of all time was remembered by several personalities, entities, such as FIFA and CBF, and clubs, through posts on social media.

The former striker passed away on December 29, 2022, at the age of 82, due to complications from colon cancer. Pelé had been facing several health problems in recent years, with greater concern about cancer, which ended up causing multiple organ failure.

Since then, the Brazilian and global idol has been the target of several tributes inside and outside the country. This Friday, memories of the King of Football once again gained prominence on social media. Santos, the team in which Pelé made history, and FIFA, the entity that organizes world football, were the first to pay tribute to the eternal number 10.

“December 29, 2022. The date that no one would like to remember, but that must be revered. The world cried for a man and immortality became real. Symbol of genius, of excellence, of perfection. The history marked by 1,116 games , the 1,091 goals, the 45 titles for Santos. With a simple nickname, a number 10 on his back and thus he became the greatest of all time. A King forever”, wrote the Vila Belmiro club.

On its official profile, FIFA was shorter in its words, in English: “One year since we said goodbye to a legend.” However, the entity highlighted the figure of the King in a frame with golden edges. Below it a plaque reads: “The King (in Portuguese): 1940 – Forever (forever)”.

On its website, the CBF also once again paid tribute to Pelé, in addition to remembering the various actions of Brazilian football in reference to the King in the last 12 months. “On December 29, 2022, Edson Arantes do Nascimento left us, at the age of 82, overcome by colon cancer. A year after his death, King Pelé remains in the imagination of millions of people around the world in recognition of his genius, art and talent never seen in a football player”, wrote the entity.

In addition to the tributes on the internet, it is possible to honor the King “in person”. Since it was inaugurated in May this year, in the Memorial Necrópole vertical cemetery, in Santos, the mausoleum where Pelé is buried has received more than 7 thousand visitors. Most of them are foreigners.
