Manaus FC’s complaint against Aparecidense in the Matheus Leal case is filed by the STJD

Manaus (AM) – The attorney general’s office of the Superior Court of Sports Justice for Football (STJD), filed the club’s complaint against Aparecidense (GO), for the irregular lineup of full-back Matheus Leal, in the match against Floresta, in the 15th round of Series C. The team amazonense, relegated to Series D, goes through another blow.

The case’s prosecutor, Marcelo Aparecido Tavares, who signed the decision, understood the case as a material error coming from the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), which requested the correction of the summary of the match between Aparecidense and Floresta.

“As reported by the Brazilian Football Confederation, the allegations made by Associação Atlética Aparecidense are valid, that is, there was no irregularity in the lineup of team athletes in the match against the Floresta team, valid for the 15th round of the 1st phase of the Brazilian Championship Series C ”,

Attorney Marcelo Aparecido Tavares documented in an excerpt from the decision.

The president of Manaus, Giovanni Silva, was not satisfied with the prosecutor’s decision and responded by asking the club’s lawyer to seek explanations from the STJD’s general attorney, Ronaldo Botelho Piacente.

“It is absurd for the prosecutor’s office to file a very clear complaint of irregularities. A strange decision, without any reason. I asked our lawyer to make a request to the attorney general. It is necessary to see what the basis of the CBF’s response is. This decision is very soft and inconsistent. I believe that it is for the first time in the history of this court that such a scandalous and damning complaint does not go beyond the prosecutor’s office to reach the STJD and be judged”,

lamented the president of Manaus, Giovanni Silva.

Remember the case

Full-back Matheus Leal appeared on the official scoresheet for the match against Floresta, when he should have been serving an automatic suspension for receiving his third yellow card in the previous match. The Aparecidense (GO) player received yellow cards in the 1st, 13th and 14th round of the competition. In the match against Floresta (CE), the name of Matheus Leal appears among those listed with the number 21 shirt.

If the infraction were confirmed, the team from Goiás would lose the maximum number of points attributed to a victory, three points and the points obtained in the match, one point for drawing with Floresta, according to article 214 and its section two of the Brazilian code of sporting justice. In this case, Aparecidense, which finished the championship with 22 points, would be overtaken by Manaus, which ended up with 20.

Performance in 2023

Manaus FC finished the Serie C season with 20 points and in 17th place, with five wins, five draws and nine defeats. The Amazonian club’s performance in the competition was 26.4%, below the performance in the entire season, which was just a little higher at 29.1%, totaling nine wins, nine draws and 13 defeats.
