Hypocrisy in polarization – 03/13/2024 – Juca Kfouri

Coach Cuca’s redemptive gesture last Sunday (10) clearly showed how extremists are “defenders of morals and good customs”.

Those who attacked those who demanded that the coach apologize to the women for his involvement in the rape case in Switzerland began to attack those who praised the attitude, mandatory and late, sincere and moving. Exactly the same people.

Intoxicated by the climate of politicization that accuses even those who praise the red tone of a charming rose, clueless fans reduced the issue to club or religious fundamentalism which, when interchanged in small terms, amount to the same thing.

Sometimes criticism of Cuca is attributed because it was Corinthians who wanted him, sometimes whoever welcomed his contrition should demand his castration instead of welcoming his possible redemption.

Eight or 80, the very same people who defended him when he was under the surveillance of those who were outraged by his silence began to offend him and turn their batteries against those who were then outraged.

As if it were an argument between the left and the right, between those who chose L or B.

What’s more: in a hell of a mess, the less angry side B started to demand the same mea culpa from Lula, as if the President of the Republic’s condemnation was the same as that of the footballer, forgetting that one was the victim of a judge considered partial, in a trial vitiated since its origin, by the highest court in the country.

They now only have it in the polluted minds of those who see in the criticism of Neymar the fact that he votes for B or L. Or in the far-right press, which calls this newspaper Foice de São Paulo and sees the journalist Merval Pereira as a dangerous communist.

We live in times of such intolerance and cynicism that it turned into this: Cuca was innocent while criticized by human rights defenders and became guilty, without the right to regret, from the moment he was welcomed by those who criticized him.

As a result, the focus on the essential was lost: Cuca read Milly Lacombe and understood that the issue was not about him, but also about him. That the world taken over by toxic machismo needs to be re-educated and expressed its willingness to close ranks in this fight.

He suffered, a lot, in conversations with his mother, his wife, his daughters.

He gave an emotional, nervous, trembling face to face, on a Sunday of glory, because he was applauded by the Athletico-PR fans from his heart on the afternoon of the 6-0 victory over Londrina, in the semi-finals of the Paranaense Championship. It is difficult to envisage an enlightened exit for Brazil.

The disillusionment with traditional politics, and with the imperfections of formal democracy, much better, let’s say, than any dictatorship, left or right, seems to lead the country to another form of obscurantism, to the theocratic regime, commanded by beasts -greedy beasts and protected by armed militias, whether in uniform or not.

Cuca’s testimony helped even with this: to show the extent of the hypocrisy of the extremists, who, because of so much military action, call militants those who only seek to be balanced with their mistakes and successes.
