Since the first world title in 2014 a lot has happened, with incredible competitors Brazil continues to stand out and has been proving that with dedication and talent things happen.

João Chianca has just won his first stage in the elite of world surfing in Portugal. That boy’s dream came true and it was beautiful to see his celebration. It was the moment that everyone involved in that achievement could breathe and be sure that the effort was worth it.

We know how difficult it is to reach the world’s surfing elite and how much families dedicate themselves and suffer to reconcile everything that involves this challenge.

We need to organize ourselves and enjoy this moment. The goals are to train champions, surfers and good people, not necessarily in that order.

Looking at this scenario, the 2nd Equlibriza Surf Grommets took place on the 11th and 12th of March, a championship dedicated exclusively to the little ones. With under 6, under 8, under 10 and under 12 categories, they brought the future of São Paulo surfing to two days of competition, fun and family bonding at Praia de Pernambuco in Guarujá.

Here in Brazil it is difficult to find championships for the little ones, starting to have more options for the under 12 category. But with the little ones starting earlier and earlier in the sport, it is necessary to look with affection and attention to this new scenario.

Countries like the United States and Australia have had a surfing culture for some time. Entire families of surfers passing down the true spirit of surfing from generation to generation.

Our moment is great and talking about the base categories is necessary, not only for the purpose of forming champions, but to feel happiness in its purest state. Seeing children playing and interacting is a learning experience for all adults.

Families gathered on the beach exchanging experiences, supporting each other and understanding that regardless of whether or not we form champions, these moments will be eternalized in our lives and theirs. They will learn to win, lose and decide how far they want to go as competitors or soul surfers.

Events like the 2nd Equilibriza Surf Grommets show the size of the positive impact for everyone involved and also for those who just walked along the beach. It was impossible to pass by and not notice the energy of the little ones. It really was an amazing event to watch.

We need to look at the base so we don’t miss this wave.

aloha
