The president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva declared, this Thursday (30th), in Brasilia, that the federal government is at the disposal of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) to join efforts for Brazil’s candidacy to host the Women’s Football World Cup, in 2027.
The statement was given during an event at Palácio da Alvorada, for the presentation of the 2023 World Cup, to be held in Australia and New Zealand. The trophy is traveling through the 32 countries that will compete in the tournament, between July 20th and August 20th. The Brazilian women’s team is looking for an unprecedented title.
“The government, through the Presidency, through the Ministry of Sports and through Itamaraty, will be available to CBF to do what is necessary so that we can bring, in 2027, the Women’s World Cup to Brazil”stated Squid.
“It will be an event that motivates the construction of a political awareness among the Brazilian people, so that they understand the participation of women effectively in every corner that they can participate, wherever they want, in the way they want”he added.
Lula also highlighted the infrastructure conditions that the country currently has, better than those of 2014, when the country hosted the men’s World Cup. “Now, you have almost everything ready. It has a better urban infrastructure work than we had in 2014. It has very good stadiums”.
National Strategy
During the event, Lula also signed the decree that creates the National Strategy for the development of women’s football in the country. The program, under the responsibility of the Ministry of Sport, foresees measures to promote the development of professional and amateur football in the country, expansion of investments and technical training for girls and women in the soccer market.
“The strategy is a transversal initiative, which addresses principles of this government’s social agenda: gender equality, combating racism and reducing inequalities. This comprehensive agenda finds in sport, and in particular in this Ministry of Sport, an important tool. In the case of women’s football, we always count on the partnership of the CBF and the state federations”said the Minister of Sports, Anna Moser.
Among the actions, the program intends to encourage the participation of women in management positions, in arbitration and in the technical direction of teams, in addition to the installation of specific training centers for women, with their own methodologies and pedagogical guidelines adapted to women’s needs. The decree determines that, in 120 days, a diagnosis of the current situation of women’s football in the country and an action plan until 2025 for the implementation of the strategy be prepared.
“Women’s football itself brings a history of many difficulties, prejudices, invisibility, which imposes barriers that persist in keeping women away from the practice of the sport, whether for leisure or even professionally”observed the minister.
The National Strategy also includes, as she explained, the “promotion of a healthy competitive culture, evolution of consciousness, self-esteem and social integration” of the women. It also intends to develop effective mechanisms of “demobilization of intolerant and violent behavior against girls and women in football stadiums or outside them”.
“The CBF is very happy with projects that may be increasingly including women in sports, especially in football, and will always be a partner, seeking to align itself with what can strengthen women’s football, not only for athletes, but for the entire chain of women’s football”said the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues.
