Globo will drastically reduce the pay-per-view value for clubs in the 2025 Brazilian Championship if it is unable to close with all the teams that make up the national Series A, regardless of whether they are part of Libra or Liga Forte União.

The information is contained in a document obtained by the website F5 and which provides contractual information about the link signed by Libra with Globo between 2025 and 2029. In it, it is explained that Premiere is an extra of the fixed R$ 1.3 billion that Globo will pay Libra teams.

Globo promises to pay 40% of Premiere’s net revenue based on what is collected between the Brasileirão dispute, generally between April and December.

Today, the Premiere in two types of transfers made by Globo: 38% of sales on pay TV with operators as intermediaries (gross revenue); and 50% of net direct sales through Globoplay.

But according to the document, the promised amount will only be transferred if Globo reaches an agreement with the other 11 teams in the Liga Forte União. Today, Libra has nine teams in the national first division.

If Globo does not reach agreements with everyone, the amount transferred to Libra will be reduced by almost half, which reinforces the loss of earnings that Libra will have.

Globo’s decision makes sense since, currently, the broadcaster has around 4.5 games per round with Libra guaranteed for next year. At least two will be shown on open TV per round and another two on pay TV.

In other words, there would be almost nothing left for Premiere. It doesn’t make sense to pay a lot for something that wouldn’t be used. For Globo, pay-per-view only makes sense for something close to the 380 Brazilian Championship games available.

The lower values in relation to the old contracts are the subject of discussions within the clubs. Flamengo approved this Monday (8) the agreement with Globo, but after strong resistance from the opposition to President Rodolfo Landim.

It is estimated that Flamengo will earn R$400 million less compared to the old agreement. Landim blamed the Mandante Law, which the club itself lobbied the Jair Bolsonaro government (2019-2022) to be sanctioned, for the reduction.

The information changes the importance of the Liga Forte União for the Brazilian Championship games. The group that includes Fluminense, Fortaleza, Athletico-PR, Botafogo and Vasco have already made it clear that they should not sell the exclusivity of their games with Globo.
