The FIFA Disciplinary Committee announced this Monday morning (30) that the former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, is banned from football-related activities for three years.

The entity that controls world football reported that the punishment was due to violation of article 13 of FIFA’s disciplinary code.

During this year’s Women’s World Cup ceremony, won by Spain, Rubiales forced a kiss on world champion Jennifer Hermoso, an act that triggered a crisis in Spanish football.

The federation’s then representative was first removed from office for a period of 90 days and subsequently removed from office. Investigated by the Spanish Public Ministry, the former leader was accused of sexual assault and coercion, in addition to the obligation to maintain a minimum distance from Hermoso.

The person who also left his post in the wake of the scandal was the coach who led Spain to the title, Jorge Vilda, who was fired by the new management of the Royal Spanish Football Federation.

Still according to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, Luis Rubiales was notified this Monday of the ban. The former director may appeal to the entity’s Appeals Committee.
