Former Palmeiras player is arrested for not paying child support

Cleiton Xavier, former football player Palm trees, was arrested this Tuesday afternoon (9), in the city of Santana do Ipanema, in the hinterland of Alagoas. A team from the State Civil Police located and arrested the 40-year-old former athlete for failing to pay child support for one of the former midfielder’s underage children.

Coordinated by delegate Daniella Andrade, police officers served a food arrest warrant issued by judge Maysa Cesário Bezerra, from the 27th Civil Court of Maceió. According to the Court, Cleiton Xavier owes R$31,600 relating to pensions for the months of June, July and August 2023. The case was opened by the ex-athlete’s ex-wife, Viviane Leão.

Cleiton Xavier will be located at the Integrated Public Security Center (CISP) in the city of São José da Tapera. The penalty for not paying pension can be one to three months in a closed regime. Estadão tried to contact the former player’s defense, but received no response.

Cleiton Xavier has been retired from the field since 2020. His last club was CRB and his most notable spell was with Palmeiras, which he defended twice, between 2009 and 2010 and 2015 and 2016. With the alviverde team, he was champion of the Copa do Brasil and Brasileirão.

The former midfielder was revealed by CSA and, throughout his career, also played for Inter, Sport, Brasiliense, Gama, Figueirense and Vitória.
