Flamengo is the most valuable brand in Brazilian football. This is what a survey carried out by Sports Value says, which carried out a Brand Valuation of the 30 most valuable football brands in the country.
According to the study, the Flamengo brand is worth R$1.9 billion. Palmeiras comes next with R$1.2 billion and Corinthians with R$1.1 billion in third place.
“Flamengo started to grow because it reduced its debt. He stops having huge liabilities and starts having more valuable assets. So he did the CT and today he is one of the biggest sellers of athletes in Brazil. He has a brand that is the most valuable and a valuable squad. The difference between Flamengo’s squad and second-placed Palmeiras is so big that this also explains their success even without having such a valuable asset, as is the case of not having a stadium in their assets”,
explained Amir Somoggi, founding partner of Sports Value, a sports marketing company, in an interview with CNN Esportes S/A.
Methodology
To arrive at the values, the criteria used by the study were:
- Consumer market potential: Here, the size of the crowd, consumption potential, geographic distribution, audience at games, audiences and digital engagement are taken into account.
- Sports potential: analysis of how much the club invests in players and the football department. Main team, youth categories, signings, player salaries, and coaching staff.
- Brand Recipes: how much each club managed to create concrete revenues, such as sponsorships, licensing, stadium, members and TV.
