Bahia elects 1st openly gay president among teams from Series A to D

Bahia elected Emerson Ferretti as the club’s new president on Saturday (2). He is the first openly gay president of a team that competes in one of the four divisions of the Brazilian Championship, according to the Coletivo de Torcidas Canarinhos LGBTQ+. The information is from the UOL website.

The new president was elected with 1089 of the 3179 valid votes. He will command the Executive Board until 2026 and will succeed Guilherme Bellintani.

Emerson is a former Bahia goalkeeper. He played for the Tricolor club between 2000 and 2005.

At 52 years old, Emerson has football narrator Paulo Tavaresa as his deputy. The board will be responsible for monitoring and ensuring compliance with the contract signed with the City Football Group.

Associação Sport Clube Bahia holds 10% after selling 90% of Sociedade Anônima de Futebol (SAF) to Grupo City.

“We need unity, belief in our club and work. The fact of being president gives me the possibility of carrying out work at a time that no one here is used to”, said Emerson Ferretti in a press interview after the election.
