Detained by hanged Vinícius Júnior doll are released

A court in Madrid this Thursday ordered the Provisional release of the four arrested for allegedly simulating the hanging of a doll with Vinícius Júnior’s shirt on a bridge in Madrid last January.

The head of the Investigating Court 26 in Madrid issued these measures at dawn, indicting the four detainees for a hate crime and another against moral integrity, although this qualification is initial and may be modified as the judicial investigation progresses, according to informed the Superior Court of Justice of Madrid (TSJM).

In addition to being accused of a hate crime, the suspects are prohibited from approaching and communicating with the Brazilian player, and from approaching less than a thousand meters from the Real Madrid sports complex.

They are also prohibited from approaching within 1,000 meters of the Santiago Bernabéu (Real Madrid) and Metropolitano (Atletico Madrid) stadiums, as well as all LaLiga stadiums during Spanish Championship matches, according to the calendar established by its organizers.

These distancing measures were requested by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and by LaLiga, who asked that they be extended to all stadiums, as confirmed to EFE by sources at the attorney’s office and representatives of the clubs.

The four detainees availed themselves of their constitutional right not to testify during the court hearing.

The detainees are four men between the ages of 19 and 24, three of them active members of the radical Frente Atlético supporter.
