Alves is accused of raping a woman during a party at a nightclub in Barcelona on the night of December 31

The Spanish Court ruled, this Wednesday (20), that former football player Daniel Alves will face rape charges in the courts from February 5th to 7th, 2024. According to the complaint, Alves raped a woman during a party in a nightclub in Barcelona on the night of December 31st. He denies it.

The Public Ministry of Spain asked that Daniel Alves be sentenced to nine years in prison for raping the 23-year-old girl. The player has been imprisoned in a city penitentiary since January, when he went to provide information to the police about the case.

According to the EFE agency, the accusation also asks that the athlete be forced to pay compensation of 150 thousand euros (equivalent to more than R$797 thousand) to the victim. The young woman, who had rejected the proposed amount for damages, when she was not yet aware of “all the consequences of the crime” on her health, decided to go back and accept the amount.

Since being detained by Spanish police on January 20, the player has changed his statement several times, initially claiming that he did not know the young woman. After being fired for just cause by Pumas, the Mexican team he defended, the full-back also began to experience a crisis in his relationship with model Joana Sanz.

In November, the Barcelona Court decided to send the Brazilian to trial for the crime of sexual assault. The Spanish court confirmed the order that the instructor issued at the end of the investigation against the athlete. The Brazilian’s defense, however, tried to negotiate an agreement so that this would not be necessary.
