Corinthians: ‘The target was me’, says Duilio about secret camera – 01/10/2024 – Sports

Former Corinthians president Duilio Monteiro Alves said he did not believe that cameras and microphones could have been hidden in the room he occupied at Parque São Jorge from 2021 to 2023. He added, however, that if any equipment had been found, the target of the espionage he was.

This Wednesday (10), a report from Sheet showed that a sweep determined by Augusto Melo, the current leader of the black and white team, found at least three pieces of spy equipment on the floor where the top hat’s room is located and where meetings also take place with other directors and advisors.

“I don’t believe anything was found. But if there was something, I was certainly the target,” Duilio told Sheet.

The former director also stated that he “completely ignores the existence of any type of installed and hidden equipment” and “vehemently repudiates any suggestion of links between my management and things of this type.”

The team’s press office confirmed the information obtained by the report from three different sources and, in a short note, said only that “Corinthians’ new administration regrets, but is not surprised by what happened.”

One of the pieces of equipment was behind the screen of a painting behind Augusto’s desk. Another was found in a socket switch, and the third, under the presidential secretary’s desk.

In addition to the members of the new board, the places are frequented by athlete managers and executives from companies with which the club maintains or negotiates partnerships.

So far, the president of Corinthians has chosen not to file a police report. According to people close to the top hat interviewed by the report, he fears being accused of having planted the equipment himself to create news.

Furthermore, there is suspicion that the initial target of the espionage scheme may not even be Augusto.

In the last year of his term, former president Duilio Monteiro Alves ended up distancing himself from the group that helped him get elected.

Part of the group disagreed about Duilio’s supposed intention to seek re-election — something that is vetoed by Corinthians’ statutes. People interviewed for the report said they could not rule out that the former president himself had been monitored by people from his political group.
