Conmebol sets the draw for the South American Championship; check the details

As Athletico seed, Conmebol set the date for the draw for the group stage of the 2024 Sudamericana for March 18. The Libertadores draw will also take place on the same day. Furacão will try to win the tournament for the third time.

In addition to Athletico, Corinthians, Cruzeiro, Cuiabá, Fortaleza and Internacional are the Brazilians in the dispute. Argentina also has six representatives, while Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela will have four places each.

Only Brazilians and Argentines enter directly into the group stage. Clubs from other countries compete in the first knockout phase in a single game. The clashes are national and are scheduled between March 5th and 7th.

According to the regulations, the four teams eliminated in the third preliminary phase of the Libertadores will also enter the South American Championship to form the 32 classified teams. The group stage then takes place between April 3rd and May 29th.

And, just like in 2023, only the first placed teams in each group will advance directly to the round of 16. The runners-up in the brackets, in addition to the third-placed teams in the Libertadores groups, compete in the playoffs to find out who will advance to the knockout stages. The grand final is scheduled for November 23rd, with no defined stadium.
