At a Council meeting this Tuesday (13), the Conmebol (South American Confederation) leadership decided that Buenos Aires, in Argentina, will host the Copa Libertadores final in 2024, previously scheduled for November 30. The stadium is yet to be decided. But the decision on the host city of the Copa Sudamericana final, scheduled for November 23, was postponed.
Conmebol considered the final of the last edition held between Fortaleza and LDU de Quito, on October 28, 2023, in the city of Maldonado, in the Punta Del Este region, in Uruguay, to be positive. The game was at the small Domingo Burgueño stadium, with an audience of 22 thousand people.
Empty arenas in recent “Sula” finals, such as in 2021 between Athletico-PR and Red Bull Bragantino, at the Centenário stadium in Montevideo, Uruguay, and between São Paulo and Independiente Del Valle-EQU in 2022, in Córdoba, Argentina, led the entity to try a different alternative in 2023.
