Amazonian athletics highlight celebrates evolution from the Pelci program

New grassroots athlete trains from Monday to Friday, on the athletics track at the Vila Olímpica de Manaus

Manaus (AM) – The Sports and Leisure Program in the Capital and Interior (Pelci) has been a source of young talents, promises for Amazonian sport. Discovered during a strategic visit by Pelci’s technical team, Henrique Nogueira, 16 years old, resident of the São José neighborhood, East Zone of Manaus, stands out in athletics, with an intense training routine at the Manaus Olympic Village.

“I can already imagine participating in national competitions, I am training and dedicating myself to this. I am very grateful, because on this track I can explore my maximum potential”,

commented Henrique Nogueira.

The new base athlete trains from Monday to Friday, on the athletics track at the Vila Olímpica de Manaus. Despite the short time, Henrique has shown progress in training.

“Henrique is an athlete with a lot of potential, who has passed specific tests in the sport and is accompanied by great professionals. We will certainly have positive results with him in future competitions”, highlighted the high performance coordinator, Sandro Viana.

Henrique Nogueira, who has already played football and judo, is proud to be part of the Program, run by the Government of Amazonas. “I’m very happy that Pelci found me in the East Zone and now I’m training in the Olympic Village, which is a reference place in the sport”, said the young athlete.

Coordinated by the State Secretariat for Sports and Leisure (Sedel), Pelci is present in 62 centers, 35 in the capital and 27 centers in the interior of the state, operating with a further 13 modalities.

“As determined by Governor Wilson Lima, Pelci, in addition to being a tool for social inclusion, is an incentive for young people like Henrique, who dream of growing up in sport”, highlighted Jorge Oliveira, secretary of Sedel.
