Conmebol makes offensive to have Messi and Inter Miami in tournament

A few months ago, Conmebol and Concacaf rehearsed a rapprochement, with joint tournaments like the next Copa America, in 2024, in the United States. Therefore, the president of the Argentine Federation, Chiqui Tapia, with the authorization of the representative of the South American entity, Alejandro Domínguez, makes an offensive with the North Americans in order to convince them to dispute a tournament in South America.

The main focus would be on calling Inter Miami, from Lionel Messi, and other teams from MLS (USA and Canada) and Liga MX, from Mexico to play against Conmebol teams. There is currently no definition of what the competition would be or if a new tournament will be created.

Recently, Conmebol’s possible interest in resuming the participation of Concacaf teams in Conmebol tournaments has surfaced. Logistics and the bloated schedule are huge barriers. However, the format of the Leagues Cup, where Messi’s Inter Miami are in the final against Nashville SC, has been praised for being short-lived and based in a single country.

Brazilian teams, however, no longer have room to play friendlies or similar tournaments. As Estadão recently showed, given the hosting of the Olympics and the Copa América, the CBF, in 2024, will squeeze even more competitions.
