“Citizenship Mat”: Ciodes resumes social project activities with Olympic modality – News of Brazil

The Integrated Center for Social Defense (Ciodes), responsible for recording police incidents in Amapá, resumes in March the Tatame da Cidadania Social Project: Forming Citizens Through Martial Arts. The initiative, which has the Secretariat of Justice and Public Security (Sejusp) as the main supporter, it had been paralyzed since the Covid-19 pandemic.

Aimed at children and teenagers aged 7 to 17, Tatame da Cidadania brings something new this year: the inclusion of Wrestling.

Diego Alves, coordinator of the Center, spoke about his expectations and satisfaction in being able to return to the project and serve the community. “We will start with 75 children and teenagers and classes will take place throughout the week, from Monday to Friday. The expectation is that as we manage to attract this audience, we will increase the number of vacancies throughout the year. It is a great pleasure to return with the project to the center”he said.

Classes will be taught on Ciodes premises. A room was prepared, assembled and equipped to receive the students. The coordinator explained that all information about the Citizenship Tatame is on the unit’s official page on social media.

“Our Instagram page describes all the ways and what is necessary for people to have access to registrations. Just remember that they will be in person, right here at Ciodes”clarified Diego Alves, adding that the coordination will take into consideration, mainly the academic performance and enrollment in the regular education network of the intended student for the social project.

Registration began this Tuesday (27), at the Integrated Social Defense Center building (Ciodes), on Avenida Raimundo Álvares da Costa, 165, in Macapá. Classes are scheduled to begin in the second half of March.

Among the martial arts, jiu-jitsu is expected to be one of the most sought after. The colonel Costa Junior, also coordinator of the project, said that the action is of utmost importance for public safety, since projects like this are also used as one of the aspects of preventing the involvement of minors in crime.

“Unfortunately, many children and young people have become involved in situations that they should not have, precisely due to the lack of occupation, in some cases. So, the Citizenship Tatame meets both the need for sport and a preventative issue in the medium and long term”declared the colonel.

The tendency, according to the project coordination, is that over time the number of classes will be expanded. “We are going to recruit other teachers to join us. Today we have four, but the idea is that throughout the year we will increase the number of classes and bring in more tutors, therefore, we will serve more children”he assured.

Students who enroll in jiu-jitsu classes will receive a free kimono, thanks to a partnership with the Court of Justice of the State of Amapá (TJAP). “We are aware that it is expensive equipment and, therefore, we are preparing, together with TJAP, to serve them with this material. In the case of Olympic wrestling, as it involves much more affordable clothing, shorts and a t-shirt, we have also resolved this issue”guaranteed Costa Junior.

To register, interested parties must have the following documents:

• Declaration of school enrollment;
• Copy of proof of residence;
• 1 3×4 photo
• Copy of the student’s ID or Birth Certificate;
• Copy of the ID or Birth Certificate of the legal guardian;
• Medical certificate of physical fitness;
• 1 folder, school classifier type, white transparent.

Created in 2018, Tatame Cidadão aims to spread martial arts to residents of needy communities around Ciodes, contributing to discipline, better training of citizens in exercising their rights, respecting others and diversity, notions of good customs, good coexistence and recognition of the authority of parents, teachers and other guardians and advisors.

“We extend that social projects are ways to combat violence. Organized crime is co-opting more and more children and teenagers, so we understand that leveraging, creating more and more projects, is extremely important in this fight”, pondered the assistant secretary of public security, Marco Scaliso.

The secretary recalled other projects that are already happening and promised that more will be launched by the end of the year. “We have social music projects in Miracema, from Bombeiro Cidadão, we are going to inaugurate, later this year, a project focused on football, to be able to bring more and more these children, these teenagers to the state and away from crime”, concluded.
