The AFA (Argentine Football Association) and Conmebol (South American Football Confederation) stated, through their social networks this Tuesday (13), that Buenos Aires will host this year’s Copa Libertadores final. However, the entity that organizes the competition has not yet announced which stadium will host the match.

“It’s official: Buenos Aires will host the 2024 Copa Libertadores final. What a joy to welcome you to our country, Conmebol!” wrote AFA on platform X, the former Twitter.

Later, the president of Conmebol, Alejandro Domínguez, also made his statement. The Argentine capital was already a strong candidate to host the duel.

According to Conmebol, the Libertadores decision should take place on November 30th this year.

The Monumental de Núñez stadium, home of River Plate, is a strong candidate to host the decisive clash. Recently renovated and with a capacity for 82 thousand fans, it is the largest in South America.

This will be the first time that Argentina will host the Libertadores decision since the single venue final format began to be adopted. Argentina has already received the South American decision on two occasions, in 2020 and 2022.

Previously, the cities that hosted the Libertadores final were Rio de Janeiro (2023 and 2020), Guayaquil, in 2022, Montevideo, in 2021, and Lima, in 2019.

Conmebol stated that it has reserved R$1.5 billion in prizes for clubs in the women’s and men’s tournaments for the current season. The value exceeds that of last year, closed at R$ 1.4 billion. The confederation, however, did not detail the amount paid per competition.

The amount did not include the prize pool for the Copa América, the tournament between national teams that will be held between June and July in the United States.

President of Conmebol, Domínguez said, in a statement, that the institution is committed to improving the competitiveness of regional competitions.
