Athletico loses two-year unbeaten run at Paranaense

After 29 games, the Athletico was beaten 1-0 by Londrina this Sunday (2), at Estádio do Café, in the quarter-finals, and said goodbye to the longest run without defeat in the history of the Paraná Championship.

The last setback in the State Championship had been in the classic against Coritiba: 2-1 suffered inside the Ligga Arena, on February 23, 2022, in the semifinal of that edition. In other words, the Hurricane lasted 738 days, equivalent to two years and a week, without losing.

In the sequence without defeats, Furacão accumulated 22 wins and seven draws, with 57 goals scored and only 15 conceded.

“It was going to happen at some point. It’s up to everyone to assume their responsibilities and do their best in the next game to reverse the situation”, lamented defender and captain Thiago Heleno, in an interview with Transamérica radio, after the final whistle.

This season, Athletico had seven wins and four draws in the first phase of the State Championship. Among the teams in Series A, it was alongside Atlético-GO and Vitórias as the teams that had not lost. Now, the team loses in the first leg of the knockout round and is under pressure to win the decision.

Athletico and Londrina will face each other again next Sunday (10), at 6:30 pm, at the Ligga Arena, in Curitiba. To advance to the semifinals, Furacão needs to win by two goals in normal time. If Athletico wins by one goal, the decision will go to penalties.
