Amazonas awaits the CBF draw to know its opponent in the third phase of the Copa do Brasil

Amazonas FC made history once again and advanced to the third phase of the Copa do Brasil, in its first participation in the competition. The classification took place on Thursday night (14), when Onça-pintada beat Maringá-PR 1-0, at the Willie Davids stadium, in the city that bears the name of the team from Paraná. Argentine midfielder Diego Torres was the scorer of the winning goal, with a great free kick.

The home team ended the game with 9 players, after the referee sent off midfielder Rodrigo, for the foul that preceded Argentine Diego Torres’ goal, and defender Vilar, two minutes later. Both expulsions took place in the second half of the match.

In the third phase, the Copa do Brasil clashes take place back and forth. Amazonas awaits the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) draw to find out its opponent. For Barezão, Onça returns to the field on Sunday (17), to face Operário, at 3:45 pm, at the Carlos Zamith stadium.

The game

Maringá, the home team, went for initial pressure. The team from Paraná insisted on shooting behind left-back Renan Castro. At 16, Bruno Lopes appeared alone in the Onça area and headed for a miraculous save by Edson Mardden. The aurinegra team, after resisting the opponent’s attacks, gradually loosened up in the match.

At 26, Diego Torres took a free kick, Sassá deflected it and goalkeeper Rafael William tapped it for a corner. Until the end of the first half, the teams created few clear scoring chances.

After the break, after four minutes, Rodrigo almost scored for Maringá-PR. The number 8 appeared free, tested downwards, and the ball bounced and went over Edson Mardden’s goal.

The game was busy, with both teams looking to open the score. At 19, Rafael Tavares advanced through the middle, was fouled and caused midfielder Rodrigo to be sent off, who received a second yellow card. Amazonas looked for the spaces left by Maringá to try to expand, but the minimum score persisted until the end of the match, guaranteeing an unprecedented classification.
