Palmeiras coach, Abel Ferreira, received the ‘Mérito da Liga Portugal’ award in Porto last Thursday, 7th, an important award from the highest entity in Portuguese football, which honors the best of the year. The coach was honored in the first edition of the Liga Portugal Awards.
Displacing his fellow Europeans, Abel Ferreira was elected by the popular jury of Liga Portugal. All Portuguese people in the sports sector, who work inside or outside their country of origin, are competing for the awards at the Portuguese ceremony.
“First of all, on behalf of the Association, I congratulate Abel for the enormous work he has done and for Portuguese football. It’s a good thing that the Portuguese coaches discovered Brazil, first with Jesus and now with Abel and the achievements they have had. Just thank him for what he has done for the Portuguese coaches”declared Domingos Patience, vice-president of the National Association of Football Coaches (ANTF).
The Portuguese coach has been working in Brazil since the end of 2020, and since then, he has already won eight titles ahead of the Palmeiras team – Conmenbol Libertadores, in the years 2020 and 2021; Paulista Championship, 2022 and 2023; Recopa Sudamericana 2022; Brazilian Championship 2022 and Super Cup 2023.
