A very difficult choice – 10/29/2023 – Juca Kfouri

On the eve of the presidential elections in 2018, the editorial of O Estado de S. Paulo, which classified voting for professor Fernando Haddad or the ex-captain expelled from the Army, made history as “a very difficult choice”. Jair Bolsonaro.

The price of hesitation is known by the extent of the destruction in Brazil in the four years of absolute madness experienced here.

No matter how low the PT’s rating was, there was no doubt between the two candidates.

Will Clarín, in Buenos Aires, have the same problem of cataracts and doubt between the civilized Sergio Massa and the deranged Javier Milei? As bad as the government Massa is part of was, it is also stupid to have doubts.

No, rare reader, you are not on the wrong page in this Sheet.

The little wax nose (that’s what we call these introductions in the newsroom) has to do with the presidential election in Corinthians, on November 25th.

This Monday (30th), it’s been a year since we voted to get rid of the plague that ravaged the country and on Wednesday (1st) we will enter the black and white election month.

Needless to say, nothing is more important than the election at the glorious Sport Club Corinthians Paulista…

But this presents a very difficult choice, so difficult that it is best not to vote, as voting is optional.

On the one hand, André Luiz Oliveira, André Negão, due to the situation. A situation that only deepened the black and white hole and ignored the achievements in men’s football. Apart from the unbeaten record at Majestoso in Itaquera, there was nothing left for the faithful to be happy about, apart from the shocks of fighting to avoid relegation.

Negão is so bad that the current president, whose name will go down in history as one of the worst, despite being supported by him, doesn’t even have the courage to support him.

The only visible quality of Negão, who is proud of the fact that “the club’s expenses exceed profitability” is his sincerity. He has never denied having links to gambling and openly works to legalize it.
He voted for Bolsonaro and doesn’t hide it from anyone.

It would be auspicious to see the pioneering Corinthians with a black president, as it was when they elected Marlene Matheus, the first woman to hold the position at a major club in the country. But not really.

The opposition candidate manages to overcome him. Augusto Melo is his name.

An admirer of the dictator Ernesto Geisel, he campaigned for the impeachment of Dilma Rousseff and recently said he had received a call from two former Corinthians governors of São Paulo, although none are alive. There were only calls from beyond, from Paulo Egídio Martins, Franco Montoro or Luiz Antônio Fleury Filho.

An inveterate mythomaniac, convicted of a crime against the tax system, with final judgment, in the last campaign he promised to build a Ferris wheel at the club, a hospital named after Doctor Sócrates and a hotel.

Now he adds the expansion of the stadium and he is able to say that he worked with Washington Olivetto at DPZ, although the famous publicist has no memory of him.

As you can see, the Corinthians partner is not faced with a difficult choice, but an impossible choice.
Whoever wins there is only one certainty: the most popular club in São Paulo, the second in Brazil, will live another three years sunk in debt, even capable of winning cups, but as a result of crazy things.
