In Amazonas, football and women’s space are evident, but still undergo transformations and affirmations

Manaus (AM) – International Women’s Day, celebrated this Friday, March 8, is a date that reinforces the need for society to reflect on the importance of women in the general context. If in all areas of professions there is pioneering spirit and the determination of women, necessary for the evolution of gender and equality, in the Amazonian sports scenario it would be no different.

In Amazonas, football and women’s space are evident, but are still undergoing transformations and affirmations. However, the consecration of the female figure is a gradual reality. Sports physiotherapist Eloisa Araújo and sports psychologist Gelziania Vital conquer their spaces by providing essential services for any Amazonian athlete or team.

Eloisa offers the acupuncture service as the only woman at Clínica Rehabilitare, located in the São Jorge neighborhood, West Zone of Manaus. She states that she has never experienced intimidation in the profession, even working with men, in some cases.

“I have always tried to show patients my knowledge in the area, have ethics and a professional attitude. In consultations, I always try to make the patient comfortable to talk, but always maintaining respect and professionalism”, he highlighted. Despite the correct attitude, women still deal with assumptions that showing politeness is giving room for another approach to patients.

Psychologist Gelziania Vital highlights that accommodation in terms of service, in a predominantly male field, did not alienate or intimidate her due to her roots.

“In reality, living in predominantly male environments has always been part of my history, even before becoming a psychologist. I have the privilege of having a father/male figure who never made me distinguish or limit my ability as a woman, he always inserted me into activities that, culturally, were aimed at a male audience, and said that I could be the whatever I wanted, as long as I made an effort, dedicated myself and took responsibility for my choices”,

stressed the psychologist.

In both stories, women highlight their own ways of being in the market. Eloisa reinforces that, in the field of acupuncture, demand is mostly from women. “My biggest audience currently are women. However, I use acupuncture and ear therapy a lot on Amazonas FC players, in consultations in partnership with Dr. Adson Duarte, the club’s physiotherapist”, highlighted Eloisa.

Psychologist Gelziania follows the analysis that there are also more women in her field of sports activity. “This is interesting data, which also reflects the profile of people who seek psychological support and mental health care. The audience is predominantly female in my experience. This tells me that there is an indication of how much still needs to be done so that mental health care also reaches the male public, especially because psychological suffering is independent of biological, social classifications, etc. It’s a human condition”, said Gelziania.

Professionals

Eloisa Araújo is a physiotherapist and the only woman at Clínica Rehabitare, which is currently the main reference for care in the sports area. The place receives, for the most part, athletes, referees and other sportspeople for treatments, including dancers from the artistic group Balé Folclórica Amazonense.

Gelziania Vital works in the field of sports psychology and heads the Amazonas FC youth team. She is the only woman who deals with the emotions of the Aurinegra base, which is currently competing in the Copa do Brasil in the Under-17 category, being the team’s first participation in the competition.

What do the two have in common? They are necessary, important and are ahead of their gender to show how much women in the job market are a factor in evolution.
