Manaus (AM) – Governor Wilson Lima delivered, this Wednesday (3), the new Arpão 2 Base with cutting-edge monitoring technology. Two other river units were also announced and vehicles and personal protective equipment were delivered to the Amazonas Military Fire Brigade (CBMAM). The deliveries total more than R$12.7 million and reinforce the operational work of the security forces.

On the occasion, the governor also announced the start of Operation Impact, on Thursday (4), focusing on reducing crime rates in Manaus in itinerant actions that integrate all bodies of the Public Security System of the Government of Amazonas.

“(I want) to reinforce the commitment we have to security in the state of Amazonas. This government’s first action of the year is literally an impactful action so that once again we can continue to suffocate drug trafficking, so that we can continue to suffocate crime”,

highlighted Wilson Lima.

The delivery ceremony took place at the Port of Manaus, Center, and was attended by the president of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Amazonas, Roberto Cidade, and state deputies Adjuto Afonso, Cristiano D’ngelo and João Luiz. Councilors Bessa and Márcio Tavares were also present, representing the Manaus City Council; the president of the Amazon Association of Municipalities and mayor of Rio Preto da Eva, Anderson Souza; in addition to the managers of the State security forces.

Harpoon Bases 2

The Arpão 2 River Base will have an annual investment of R$4.75 million, with resources and management from the State Secretariat for Public Security (SSP-AM) and design and execution by the State Secretariat for Infrastructure (Seinfra).

The structure is equipped with cutting-edge weapons and equipment, such as Negev machine guns, drones and night vision goggles, in addition to the assistance of armored boats and a gym that will help maintain the performance of security agents.

The new base will be installed between the Negro and Branco rivers, benefiting the municipalities along the Negro river, including Barcelos, Novo Airão and Santa Isabel do Rio Negro.

In addition to Arpão 2, two other bases will be moved to new areas. These are the Tiradentes and Paulo Pinto Nery river bases. The Tiradentes Fluvial Base will reinforce the entire channel of the Alto Solimões rivers, between Tefé and Nova Olinda do Norte, up to the municipality of Japurá.

The Paulo Pinto Nery River Base will be moved to Itacoatiara, covering areas such as Itacoatiara, Urucurituba, Maués, Autazes, Borba, Nova Olinda do Norte, in addition to Parintins and all municipalities on the Madeira River.

All bases work to combat crimes such as drug trafficking, biopiracy, illegal extraction of wood, sand, pebbles, gold, among others. To this end, the units have integrated personnel from the Amazonas Military Police, Civil Police, Fire Department and Technical-Scientific Police Department. Furthermore, the Arpão 2 River Base has the support of the Roraima police forces.

“The base will provide more security for the city of Manaus and will be collaborative as the Roraima police will also embark, as some of the drugs were also going to Boa Vista. With this delivery, public safety reaches practically all river channels, providing more security for those who work on rivers, for our communities and also for our brothers in the interior”,

evaluated the secretary of SSP-AM, colonel Vinícius Almeida.

Harpão River Base 1

In August 2020, Governor Wilson Lima launched the Arpão River Base, a pioneering project to combat drug trafficking, piracy and environmental crimes. Operating on the Solimões River, between the municipalities of Coari and Tefé, the base provides support for integrated police operations.

In partnership with the Federal Government, the initiative caused losses to crime of more than R$243.7 million in the last four years, with R$84.9 million in 2023 alone.

Fire Department

The new fleet of 15 Fire Department vehicles and equipment had an investment of R$8 million and is a preliminary measure that is part of the planning to intensify firefighting actions during the Amazon summer for 2024.

In total, there are three Auto Bombas Tankes (ABTs), six pickup trucks, five cars and a pickup truck, the latter two being used for inspections in Manaus.

“These are investments focused on the dry period that we may eventually suffer. Investments of around R$ 8 million, with fire fighting, rescue and inspection vehicles, are intended to provide a robust security apparatus for the Fire Department. The objective is to provide the city of Manaus and the interior with new vehicles so that we can face any eventuality”,

stated the general commander of the Amazonas Military Fire Department, colonel Orleiso Muniz.

The vehicles delivered will be used to reinforce the operations of the capital and the municipalities of Rio Preto da Eva, Presidente Figueiredo and Tabatinga. In addition, 215 items will be delivered, such as protective helmets, approach clothing, boots and other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and five drones for use in missions such as rescue and locating fires in forest areas.

Task force

In 2023, during the greatest drought in the history of Amazonas, the Fire Department was on the front line in fighting fires across the state. Between July 12 and December 2, the corporation fought 2,919 fires, 2,090 of which through Operation Aceiro in the interior and 829 in the capital with Operation Céu Limpo.

Expansion inside

In November 2023, Governor Wilson Lima presented the implementation plan for the Integrated Fire Fighting and Civil Protection Group (GCIP), which should be fully installed by the end of the first half of 2024. Initially, the group will serve 21 municipalities that , currently, represent 92% of the records of hot spots in the State.
