Governor Wilson Lima highlighted, this Monday (25), that the natural gas market has consolidated itself as a strong alternative for economic development in Amazonas. The highlight was made during the launch of the construction works of the Azulão 950 Complex, in Silves (240 kilometers from Manaus), which has investments of around R$ 5.8 billion and foresees the construction of thermoelectric plants and generation of 5 thousand jobs.

Wilson Lima stated that the attraction of new investments, such as the new project by the company Eneva in Silves, proves the success in the definition, by the Government of Amazonas, in 2021, of the new legal framework for the distribution and commercialization service of natural gas in the state .

“Breaking the gas monopoly, with the help of the Legislative Assembly, was decisive in making this Eneva venture, the exploration of natural gas, viable, as well as attracting other ventures to Amazonas. Eneva’s operation is fundamental because it sends an important message to the market about legal security and the trust that can be had in the government that the rules will not be changed”, said the governor.

According to the National Petroleum Agency (ANP), Amazonas has the largest onshore gas reserves in the country, which represents great potential for the state with a view to advancing its use in commercial enterprises, residential units, industries and vehicles.

According to the Amazonas Gas Company (Cigás), there are already more than 18.3 thousand consumer units (UCs) contracted; seven gas stations operating with vehicular natural gas (CNG); and the natural gas distribution network, which is already 287 kilometers long, covering more than 20 neighborhoods in the capital.

Participating in the event in Silves were vice-governor Tadeu de Souza; the mayor of the municipality, Paulino Grana; the Secretaries of Energy, Mining and Gas (Semig) Roney Peixoto; of Infrastructure (Seinfra), Carlos Henrique; from the Environmental Protection Institute (Ipaam), Juliano Valente; from the State Delegated and Contracted Public Services Regulatory Agency (Arsepam), Ricardo Lasmar; from the Technological Education Center, Fábio Albuquerque; president of Cigás, Heraldo Câmara; Lúcia Carla, from the Integrated Management Unit (UGI); state deputies Mário César Filho, Sinésio Campos and Cabo Maciel; the president of Eneva, Lino Cançado, as well as councilors from Silves.

Azulão 950 Complex

With the Azulão 950 Complex alone, investments estimated by Eneva are in the order of R$5.8 billion. Furthermore, at the peak of work scheduled for mid-2025, around 5,000 direct jobs will be created.

The CEO of Eneva Lino Cançado emphasized the economic and social impact of the project, such as the creation of jobs at the Azulão project in the coming years.

“We bring development to the region, generating several jobs at the Azulão plant and during construction, we will generate, at the peak of construction, something close to 4 thousand jobs and, during operation, another 15 years generating jobs, labor and providing opportunities for the inhabitants of the region and surrounding municipalities”, highlighted the executive.

The Azulão I and II thermoelectric plants will operate at the site, using fuel from the Amazon Basin, which together will have 950 MW of installed capacity, connected to the Northern Subsystem of the National Interconnected System.

The forecast is to serve 3.7 million homes across the country with the supply of electricity from natural gas between the end of 2026 and the beginning of 2027.

New investments

In February, Eneva announced the commercial declaration of two new exploration fields – Campo de Tambaqui and Azulão Leste – in Silves and Itapiranga (227 kilometers from Manaus), with the expectation of generating up to 1 thousand new jobs and investment of up to R$ 350 million.

With the technical cooperation agreement signed in October 2023, between the Government of Amazonas and Eneva, the work has already begun and is carried out by the company, as a social contribution, at the Agobar Garcia State School and already has more than 50 people from Silves hired. to work on the project, which has an investment of R$10 million and is expected to be completed in early July.
