The Education Valorization Center maintains the “Walk with Us” project, aimed at the health and well-being of employees who work in the state public education network. The initiative offers a variety of physical activities adapted to different profiles and fitness levels of professionals.

The diversity of options seeks not only to meet individual preferences, but also to promote the participation of a greater number of employees, reinforcing the sense of community and belonging. Retired employees can also participate.

At the beginning of the work, in 2018, the only sports practice offered was walking and stretching, but, over the years, strength, motor coordination and agility exercises were included. Students are placed in an exercise circuit and are guided by three physical education professionals, including educator Edson Canuto Júnior.

“We have always collected and written reports with testimonies from participants. Everyone is unanimous in talking about the benefits that the project helped to provide, from improving sleep disorders to controlling blood pressure and diabetes”Canuti testified.

Retired teacher Nilda Costa Ribeiro, 54 years old, is part of the group. She has been with the project since 2019 and says that she found out about the initiative through social media and that she sought out the service just to exercise, with a focus on strengthening bones and joints.

“I don’t have a serious health problem, I came for prevention. So, I improved a lot. I notice a reduction in measures, strength, disposition, a lot of things have improved. I highly recommend it. I advertise the project there to teachers, but it’s a matter of habit, it’s a matter of you deciding for your health”reported the teacher.

To join the project, employees need to be referred by the Center’s specialized service, which is linked to the State Department of Education (Seed).

The project takes place in Praça Nossa Senhora de Fátima, located in the Santa Rita neighborhood, in Macapá. Activities take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 8 am to 9 am and on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
