According to the Bill, 2% of the total available scholarships must be reserved

Manaus (AM) — Women in situations of socioeconomic vulnerability as a result of domestic violence may benefit from the Bolsa Universidade Program, in Manaus. The Bill (PL) that reserves a place in the program was presented by councilor Thaysa Lippy (Progressive), this week.

The PL amends Law No. 1931, of November 19, 2014, which provides for the University Grant Program (PBU), created by Law No. 1,357, of July 8, 2009.

“This project comes as a great instrument for strengthening and empowering women, especially those who have gone through processes of vulnerability after suffering violence”,

said the councilor.

According to the project, 2% of the total scholarships available for women victims of domestic and family violence must be reserved, as per law 11,340/2006 (Maria da Penha Law).

According to the local press, Operation Shamar, from the Amazonas Civil Police, assisted 1,843 women victims of domestic and family violence in 17 municipalities in Amazonas, including Manaus, from August 21st to September 14th of this year. The balance of the work aimed at combating crimes of violence against women in the State was registered at the Integrated Command and Control Center (CICC) of the State Secretariat of Public Security (SSP-AM).
