The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announced this Friday (12) that it will have foreign video assistant referees for important games in the first division of the Turkish championship until the end of the season.

This announcement comes after officials at second-placed Fenerbahçe, two points behind arch-rivals Galatasaray, publicly criticized the integrity of Turkish referees last week.

“A foreign video assistant referee (VAR) will be appointed for critical matches from the 32nd round of the Super League until the end of the championship,” the TFF said in a statement.

According to the TFF, an agreement has been reached with the Italian, Spanish, German, Dutch and Portuguese federations.

Fenerbahçe president Ali Koç declared on Sunday that numerous leagues “escaped” his club in a dubious way, stating that there is “a hidden network in Turkish football that, for years, decides the course of the championship through the intermediation of referees.” .

The Istanbul club, in open war with the TFF, refused to compete in the Turkish Super Cup last Sunday, leaving the field in the first minutes of the game against Galatasaray. On Thursday, Fenerbahçe was fined 115 thousand euros (around R$627 thousand) for this abandonment.
