Since 2021, Macapá City Hall has been dedicated to a project that goes beyond health care: it is an incentive for the population’s quality of life. Through Basic Health Units (UBS) In the municipality, therapeutic groups are held to practice physical exercise, open to all age groups.

The meetings take place regularly in the mornings, and are carried out under the supervision of the physical educator at each UBS. The student participates in diverse physical activities targeted at each audience, such as stretching, aerobic and muscle strengthening exercises.

Maria Raimunda, 72 years old, she is an active participant in the “Vida Saudável” therapeutic group at UBS Leozildo, located in the South Zone. For her, participating in this group has been fundamental to keeping her memory up to date.

“Our classes take place here at CEU das Artes, with lots of music and entertainment. I participate because it is very good for my memory and my physique. We have to value the opportunities we have to exercise”he said.

Another excited participant is Maria Lucia, 52 years old, who never misses therapeutic group classes. Since she started exercising, she has noticed an improvement in her physical condition, which motivates her to continue participating in group activities.

“I had some health problems and with the exercises I practiced I felt that the pain I felt improved 100%. Now I feel happier and willing to come to all classes”he spoke.

The program is coordinated by the Multidisciplinary Team (EMULTI) from the Municipal Health Department (Semsa), with meetings scheduled in the morning at 7am on weekdays.

“Regular physical exercise is important for all ages, especially for the elderly, who need reinforcement due to the damage caused by time. These activities improve physical conditions, such as cardiovascular health, and increase physical resistance.”states Claudio Junior, Municipal Coordinator of the Multidisciplinary Team.
